LGV Drivers

Driver expectations – what we are looking for

The impact that our drivers have on the road and at Customer sites will create an image of Abbey in the eyes of the Customer and the public at large.  When you are voted 'Haulier of the Year', as we were in 2010, expectations of Abbey Drivers are increased as you are part of a winning team and "the best".

The actions of our drivers – as ambassadors of the Company - has a direct impact on the impression of Abbey providing perceptions regarding our operations, training methods and professionalism.

We have a duty to maintain and improve our excellent reputation and seek drivers that can further enhance our reputation in the food industry.

The “ideal” driver would have the following personality characters

  • Careful and considerate driving style.
  • High emphasis on your safety and of others.
  • Professional Attitude.
  • Excellent Personal Presentation – Uniforms Provided including Shirts & Tie.
  • Pride in your equipment.
  • Excellent accident avoidance record.
  • Flexible and industrious work ethics.

Whilst experience in the particular transport section you are applying for is desirable, this is not necessary as a full training programme is available and all new drivers will undergo :-

  • Driving Assessment
  • Knowledge Test
  • Interview by Area Manager
  • 2 Day Company Classroom Induction - Approved for 14 CPC hours
  • 1-2 weeks on job training – dependent upon experience of applicant
