KERFOOT GROUP V ABBEY ROAD TANKS - 11 A SIDE FOOTBALL MATCH

The ‘Abbey football season' officially kicked off on 29th March 2009 with a thrilling encounter against the Kerfoot Group at Northallerton FC's Regency Stadium.

It was the first official match for Abbey following weeks of 5-a-side practice and one 11-a-side encounter against a local team in which Abbey came out 3-1 winners on the day.

Kerfoot ART TeamsHowever, that winning start could not be continued when Abbey came up against a resilient Kerfoot team organised by Tom Kerfoot.

It was all square at half time with a goal each after Kerfoot had taken the lead with a goal from Duckett followed by an equaliser just before half time by Abbeys striker Ian ‘Fernando' Clark.

 ART Team Talk
After a gruelling team talk at half time, both sides came out for the second half with renewed energy.  It wasn't long before Kerfoot took the lead in the second half with a goal from Warne and the glorious weather and tired legs started to take the toll on the players.

At one point, Abbey's subs line resembled an Accident & Emergency waiting room with 4 subs all of which had injuries (or so they said)!

InjuryAfter losing the lead for the second time in the match, Abbeys Man of the Match went off injured.

However, in true Roy of the Rovers style, Peter Cunningham made a miraculous recovery after a massage from his team mates and came back on the field to slot 2 goals past David ‘Safe Hands' Kerfoot to send Abbey into the lead with just 15 minutes left on the clock.

The game seemed won for Abbey until Jarosz popped up with 8 minutes left to lob Abbeys ever reliable keeper, Mark Atherton.

In the end, the result was fair and topped off a great weekend had by all........ the rematch in the North West is scheduled for May/June 2009.

Finally, I would like to give a special mention to Alan Sutton (Abbey) and Tom Kerfoot for organising the weekend and look forward to repaying the hospitality shown when the rematch takes place.............
