The Chocolate Tank
In 2001/2002 ART began to make major inroads into the UK chocolate industry. In conjunction with these chocolate manufactures we produced a blueprint for the most technically advanced and versatile vessel for the carriage of cocoa products. In 2002, we introduced the “Jumbo Chocolate Tank” which was designed in conjunction with our First Chocolate Client which was very quickly afterwards nominated as the standard European specification for Road Tankers for the carriage of bulk liquid chocolate for this client. Our Technical Director, Bernie Hollund completed the research into the future direction of the demands of the chocolate industry and the Health and Safety Executive and built this into the standard specification for future Chocolate Road Tankers. By maximising the dimensions of the tankers to UK maximum legal allowances – we were able to design a chocolate vessel (with a payload of 26 tonnes – previously a maximum of 21 tonnes) with 3 compartments – the centre compartment of this vessel being able to accommodate a full 26 tonne payload at 44 tonne operations of the “lighter” products such as Bulk Liquid Oils and Fats. The main benefits for our clients were increased payloads (20% increase) , higher standard of equipment, far more flexibility for co-loading smaller loads for various customers and the avoidance of expensive Fixed Charges in periods of low volumes.
