Safety, Health, Environment & Quality (SHEQ)


WaterAt Abbey Roadtanks Ltd. we are committed to conducting our business in a manner that ensures the health and safety of our staff and customers, which positively impacts the Environment and reduces our carbon footprint, whilst maintaining the highest standards of quality throughout our operations.

 

 

In our May 2009 re-organisation, we established Executive and Managerial responsibility for three key areas of our operation with Steve Lucy and Ian Clark undertaking the respective roles of SHEQ Director and SHEQ Manager. The targets for improvement set for this area are outlined below:-

Environment

We have developed an invigorating Environmental Plan which focuses upon the following areas:-

  1. Water Consumption
           Introduction of Rinsewater Recovery systems
           Capture of rainwater
           Replacement of all water storage tanks with heated,
           insulated facilities

  2. Waste & Effluent
           Introduction of previous Product Capture methodology
           Reduce landfill usage
           Streamline site waste generation

  3. Site Energy Efficiency
           A full assessment of Wind Power as an alternative energy
           source
           Introduction of new burners for boilers at all sites
           Introduction for energy saving modes for all electric
           consumers

  4. Fleet CO2 Emissions
           Refocused Driver Training Regimes featuring SAFED
           training to improve MPG
           Continue use of incentive schemes to reward improving
           returns
           Introduction of Engine Analysis to identify poor practices
           Programmed establishment of a fleet of Euro 5 vehicles

  5. Transport Planning
           Programmed maximisation of Customer payloads
           Introduction of Approved Routes
           Extension of existing night running

  6. Sourcing
           Introduction of environmental considerations in Supplier 
           Selection
           Greater interaction with Michelin to improve our tyre
           policies

 

The cohesive and efficient execution of the Programme will be facilitated by the active engagement of all staff. This will commence with a rolling out of the Programme to all company staff in August 2009

We have targeted our accreditation to ISO14001 by early 2010.

Health & Safety

We have established a plan to achieve OHSAS 18001 accreditation by  mid 2010. The programme is being headed up by Ian Clark who has recently attended a NEBOSH course. The targeted achievements featured in this programme include extensive Executive and Staff Health & Safety training, improved understanding of Best Practice, greater auditing of actual processes and activities and eradication of Health & Safety Non-Conformances.

HACCP & ISO 22000

Upon completion of the achievement of the Environmental Standard ISO 14001, we have charged Steve Lucy with the integration of our existing HACCP procedures into a coherent Food Safety Management system. Accreditation to ISO 22000 is planned for mid - late 2010.
